According to STEAMBOATS AND FERRIES ON WHITE RIVER: A HERITAGE REVISITED, by Duane Huddleston, Sammie Rose and Pat Wood (Conway, Ark.: UCA Press; 1995), "United States Gunboat 25 on White River near De Valls Bluff in late 1863 or early 1864. Because of Confederate guerilla attacks, gunboats such as this had to escort the transports up the river." Written on the image is "Enterprise of London."
